Meet Me - Susan

I’m Susan, and I guess you could say I’ve always been a wanderer. It started when I was 20 and bought a train ticket out of Philadelphia, headed west. Chicago, Montana skies with clouds swirling like a baby tornado, little towns that still had horse posts from the cowboy days, the Space Needle in Seattle, running a kitchen on a Navajo reservation, rolling into New Orleans, Florida, and back home again. That first trip lit a fire in me — I was hooked.

Somewhere along the way, the road became my teacher. I’ve traveled solo, no tour guides, no besties — just me and the miles ahead. And still, I’ve made friends in strange places that turned into family for life. The moments stick with me: music drifting through New Orleans streets, the hush of desert nights, the feeling of stepping off a train into someplace I’d never seen before and knowing I belonged there.

But the one that still gives me chills is the Million Dollar Highway in Colorado, climbing those switchbacks at 11,000 feet. The sky was this deep, impossible blue pressed against pillows of snow, and I thought — this must be as close to heaven as I’ll ever get. That’s the spirit I carry with me here. Freedom, awe, resilience, connection. I don’t know where the road has taken you, but I’m glad it led you here.
